Daylight saving
For one week, London is 4 hours from New York
Countries change clocks on different dates. Every standing meeting anchored to one zone quietly moves for everyone else — and India does not change clocks at all.

The awkward week in late October
Your "standing" Tuesday call is about to move. Most people will not notice until someone joins an hour early or an hour late.
On 25 October 2026, clocks go back in the UK and central Europe. The US and Canada wait until 1 November. That leaves roughly a week where:
- London is 4 hours ahead of New York, not 5.
- Berlin is 5 hours ahead of New York, not 6.
- London → Bengaluru stretches from 4h 30m to 5h 30m (India never changes).
- A 9:00 AM New York standup that landed at 6:30 PM IST can become 7:30 PM IST after US clocks fall back.
Why calendar invites lie during DST weeks
Google Calendar and Outlook keep the meeting fixed in the organiser's time zone by default. When another country changes clocks and yours does not, their local wall time slides. The invite still says "10:00" for you; for them it is suddenly 09:00 or 11:00.
Teams that write only one zone on the invite ("10am ET") discover the drift mid-call. Writing every zone — and checking a live offset for that specific date — avoids the empty Zoom room.
What to do this week
- Open the DST page and find your pairs — the dark line marks today; orange segments mark the short 4-hour New York–London window.
- For recurring meetings that cross the Atlantic, review the next three occurrences after each change Sunday.
- If India is on the call, assume their evening slot moves when the US or UK changes — rotate who takes the late hour.
- Schedule from the meeting planner on the actual date you care about. Offsets come from each city's zone database for that day, not a fixed spreadsheet.
Australia and the southern hemisphere
South-east Australia and New Zealand are already on summer time in October while the northern hemisphere is falling back. London–Sydney and Los Angeles–Sydney therefore pass through more than two offsets in a year — including purple transition bands when only one side has switched.
If your team spans both hemispheres, treat "the usual gap" as a seasonal range, not a single number. The DST charts on this site plot that range for common pairs.
Keep the live view honest
Is My Team Working applies each city's clock changes automatically. The timeline, clocks, and planner always use the offset for the date you are looking at — including the one-week Atlantic mismatch. No manual GMT math, no annual spreadsheet rewrite.

When do clocks change in 2026?In 2026, the UK and much of Europe go back on Sunday 25 October. The US and Canada go back on Sunday 1 November. Full tables and gap charts live on the daylight saving time page.
Why does New York–London become 4 hours for a week?Europe falls back a week before the US. Between those Sundays, London is on standard time while New York is still on daylight time, so the usual 5-hour gap shrinks to 4 hours.
Does India observe daylight saving? No. IST stays GMT+5:30 all year. When the US or UK changes clocks, every India–US or India–UK meeting shifts by an hour relative to local evenings unless you reschedule.
